As a church in Manchester, we are in the process of getting ready for the Christmas season – organising decorations for our building and planning festive events to mark this special time of year where we can also reach out to the communities that we serve.

No doubt, you’ll be doing the same as there’s plenty to do at this time of year- planning gifts, decorations, meeting up with friends and family, school and work events too.

While it’s an exciting time, the lead-up to Christmas can also be stressful and hard work!

So while you’re busy planning all that needs to be done for the festivities, why not also plan in some rest-time so that you have opportunity to take a break, spend time with your family and with God?

Just like anything important in life, sometimes the only way to make sure that you get some rest and time with those you love is to schedule it into your diary.

That way you’ll make sure that you take the time out because you can plan other things round it. The time is protected because it’s booked into your calendar.

What things do you enjoy and could describe as a “tank-filler”, something that makes you feel rested? Maybe it’s playing a sport, reading a book, listening to music, catching up on a TV programme or catching up with a friend.

What do you and your spouse, your friends or your family enjoy doing together? Going for a meal out? Taking a walk together? Going to the swimming pool, park or cinema? Make sure at this busy time of year that you include your favourite activities to make the most of your time with the special people in your life.

Taking time out to spend with God will help you to grow in your faith and in your relationship with him. Praying, worshipping, reading the Bible and just resting in his presence will bring you a sense of peace and joy.

One of the best ways to invest in yourself and in your relationship with God is to make time to be in church. Here you will find friendship, encouragement and support, as well as worship and teaching to build your faith.
