The Cost of Consecration – Giving Out to Live It Out
Hosea’s story reveals a profound truth about consecration: it’s costly. When God asked Hosea to redeem Gomer, it required a significant sacrifice—not just financially, but emotionally and spiritually.
The cost of redemption is illustrated in Hosea 3:2, where Hosea pays to bring Gomer back from slavery. The financial cost, equivalent to £140 today, pales in comparison to the personal cost. Hosea had to endure public ridicule, slander, and perhaps the disdain of his peers. Yet he obeyed God, creating a safe environment where Gomer could begin a journey of restoration.
Consecration often requires surrender—of pride, reputation, or personal desires. Hosea’s commitment to abstain from intimacy with Gomer, as she transitioned to a life of purity, shows the depth of his dedication to God’s plan.
For us, consecration may mean letting go of grudges, sacrificing comfort, or aligning our desires with God’s will. It’s about giving out, so we can live out God’s purposes. In 2025, as we seek to be holy and set apart, we must ask: What price is God asking me to pay? What impulses, habits, or relationships must I surrender to live a consecrated life?
True consecration isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. It’s through these sacrifices that we become vessels of God’s grace, enabling others to experience His love and transformation.
