Surrendered: Set Apart for God
As we embark on this journey of consecration, let’s explore what it means to live a life that is set apart for God. Consecration is not just a ritual or tradition; it’s a deliberate act of dedicating ourselves to God’s purpose. In Joshua 3:5, Joshua told the Israelites, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” This verse reveals the heart of consecration: preparation and surrender.
The Hebrew word for “set apart” is hagiazō, which means to sanctify or dedicate something as sacred. For the Israelites, this was a call to lay aside distractions and prepare to encounter God’s miraculous work. They were about to cross the Jordan River and enter the Promised Land, but first, they needed to realign their hearts and lives with God. This moment teaches us that God works powerfully through those who are set apart for Him.
Reflecting on my own journey, I can see how surrendering my life to Christ transformed everything. Before I truly knew Jesus, the idea of dedicating my life to God felt foreign. But when I experienced His forgiveness and peace, devotion became a natural response. Like the Israelites, I realised that being set apart wasn’t just about avoiding sin but about positioning myself to receive God’s blessing and guidance.
This New Year offers us a chance to reflect. What distractions or fears are holding you back from fully surrendering to God? The Israelites faced their own “Jordan moments” – fears of the unknown, leaving behind their comfort zones, and stepping into new challenges. We all face similar moments where we stand on the edge of something significant.
Surrendering to God means inviting Him into these moments. It’s about letting go of our fears and trusting Him to lead us. As we approach 2025, ask yourself: what are the “Jordan moments” in your life? How can you step into them with God’s strength and guidance?
Take time this week to reflect on areas where you may need to surrender. Are there habits, fears, or distractions that prevent you from being fully devoted to God? As we continue this season of consecration, let’s commit to being set apart for Him, laying down our lives in surrender, and allowing God to do amazing things through us.
