Pursuing God in a Culture of Unforgiveness
In a world increasingly defined by judgement and unforgiveness, it’s easy to forget the nature of the God we serve. Hosea 3 offers a profound reminder of God’s relentless pursuit of His people, even when we fall short.
Our culture often shuns those who make mistakes, offering no room for redemption. Take the story of Alexi McCammond, a young woman whose past tweets cost her a prestigious editorial role. No consideration was given to her youth or personal growth—only condemnation. This stands in stark contrast to the heart of God.
The story of Hosea and Gomer vividly illustrates God’s forgiving and pursuing nature. Gomer, Hosea’s wife, had fallen into prostitution. Despite her betrayal, God commanded Hosea to love her again, saying: “Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites.” This radical call to love mirrors God’s own heart—a God who forgives and restores us, even when we don’t deserve it.
In this month of consecration, God calls us to set ourselves apart for His purposes. Consecration is a journey of forgiveness—accepting God’s grace and offering it to others. To lead lives of holiness, we must embrace forgiveness over judgement. Jesus Himself modelled this: forgiving the woman caught in adultery, showing compassion to the Samaritan woman at the well, and urging them to live a renewed life.
What about us? Are there people we need to forgive? Is there guilt or shame we need to release into God’s hands? Consecration starts with recognising that we serve a God of second chances, who invites us to leave our mistakes behind and live out His love and holiness.
