Stewardship and Priorities – Counting the Cost
In life, we are constantly balancing priorities, both long-term and immediate. Jesus teaches us the importance of good stewardship and planning in Luke 14:28-30, where He compares our lives to building a tower. Before starting a construction project, one must calculate the cost and ensure enough resources are available to complete the work. The same principle applies to our spiritual journey.
Understanding the Cost of Following Christ
When Jesus called His disciples, He made it clear that following Him would come at a cost. True discipleship requires sacrifice, dedication, and a shift in priorities. We must consider what it means to follow Jesus and how it affects our relationships, finances, and lifestyle.
Financial Stewardship
Just as a builder estimates costs before beginning a project, we must manage our finances wisely. Everyday expenses like food, clothing, and transport require budgeting. Similarly, our spiritual lives require financial stewardship—investing in the work of God’s Kingdom through tithing and generosity.
Time and Resource Management
We must also evaluate how we spend our time and resources. Are we dedicating enough time to prayer, Bible study, and serving others? Just as a well-planned construction project involves careful allocation of materials and labour, our lives should be structured around godly priorities.
Applying This to Daily Life
- Budget Wisely: Plan your finances and prioritise giving to God’s work.
- Evaluate Your Priorities: What takes precedence in your daily life? Is Christ at the centre?
- Commit to the Journey: Following Jesus isn’t a one-time decision but a lifelong commitment.
Stewardship is about more than money; it’s about managing all aspects of life in a way that honours God. Are you willing to count the cost and build your life with Jesus as the foundation?
